(Leftover) Jam of the Month: Astral Weeks

Yes, I completely failed on your Jam of the Month shipment in January.
But I assure you there has been much jamming going on in these parts.

When it comes to music, my tastes and preferences change like the tides, depending on the season, my mood, and an assortment of other factors.

Currently I've been feeling a very mellow vibe.
So, today's leftover jam is from Van Morrison.

The song is Astral Weeks from the album Astral Weeks.

In usual Van Morrison style, it's growly and mumbly and I can't tell what the hell he's saying most of the time, but it's happy and wonderful and jammie nonetheless.

So, slap this onto a piece of bread and sink your teeth in!

Jam on, my mumbly hippie friends!

Jam of the Month: Valise

If you have not had the good fortune of having yet heard the Dallas, Texas based band, Valise, you really do not know what you're missing.

So, the original link to the Youtube video no longer works and it took a while for me to find a working link so you could hear this song, called "Digadig."

Click this link then scroll down to the 4th song:

They are still under the radar so if you want to be ultra-hip you should go tell all your friends to listen to them and do some fangirling or fanboying or whatever it is we do when we love stuff a whole big bunch.

Because these guys are good and their popularity will probably start spreading like ebola.

***Update to post - I wrote this over a month ago, not knowing that the first case of Ebola in the US would happen to be in Dallas and information about it would be released on the same day that this post was scheduled.
I promise it was not me who started Ebola here.
I just share good music.

If you don't spread the word now someone else is going to out-hip you on the indie music scene.

Jam of the Month: Vance Joy

September's Jam of the Month is "Riptide" and comes from Australian singer-song writer, Vance Joy.

Let's take a listen, shall we?

The song is featured on his debut album, Dream Your life Away, due to release this month.

My daughter shared several other great songs of his with me and, I assure you, his music will not disappoint.

She is already a huge fan and has purchased tickets to see him in person next next month at a Dallas venue.

I'm sure that will bring her much... Joy.

Yeah, I know.
That was really bad.

Jam of the Month: Asegir

This month's Jam of the Month is from Icelandic artist, Asegir Trausti, whose music is described as 'melodic folk.'
My oldest daughter is currently loving this guy, although I'm not sure if it's his music or his appearance that tickles her fancy.

However, there is no doubt his newest release, King and Cross, tickles my fancy and hopefully yours as well.

Jam on, my people!

Jam of the Month: Midlake

Always on the hunt for great songs (old and new) to add to my playlist, I've decided to introduce a new series entitled
Jam of the Month.

I'll share a song/artist that I'm currently listening to, or that someone has shared with me, so that we can all have evolved, eclectic, super-hip taste in music and be delightful at parties and other social gatherings with our vast knowledge of all things melodic...

or you can just have some great songs to jam to in the car or shower.

Up first is a song from a band I have been listening to for several months now called Midlake.

They started in Denton at the University of North Texas which is known for having a great local music scene and a fantastic music department.

There are a couple of songs on their newest album, Antiphon, that I really like but
The Old and the Young
is my current favorite.

If you like them, you can check out their site here.

Haunting

Do you have one of those songs on your playlist that,
from the first time your ears beheld it and every time in the 20 years since,
whenever you hear it,
makes you feel completely content and fulfilled yet completely heartbroken at the same time?

For me, it's this one.

It's hauntingly beautiful and proof that there is a God.
And his name is Eddie Vedder.
